Mommo.hu was a Hungarian microblogging and social networking site. It started in 2007 to introduce a new type of social networking – those already existing in Hungary were not so much about sharing things publicly like Twitter, for example. (The founders didn't deny that they took some ideas from some sites like Twitter.) The aim of the site was to let people form loose groups by sharing (and uploading) status updates, pictures and videos.[1]
Mommo, even in 2014, claimed itself to be the "leading microblogging service in Hungary", which was true, as although it didn't have too many users, it was the most popular – if not the only one – service of its kind, if we don't count Twitter, which was probably much more known, but not a Hungarian service.
Mommo.hu was run by Blogter Ltd., the same company which ran blogter.hu. However, unlike Blogter, it didn't suffer from technical issues, but the lack of administrator activity was noticeable there too, although it wasn't completely left alone.
While blogter.hu's technical decay was similar to the decay of the financial status of Blogter Ltd., Mommo.hu was fine until August 2014, when, all of a sudden, it became unavailable and – regardless of the "we're working on the solution, we ask for your patience!" message on Facebook, it didn't come back.[2]
Archives
No complete archive of Mommo was made. However, the Wayback Machine made snapshots regularly, so some (but apparently quite little) of its content was saved.
