Gitter is an open source chat system mostly used by FOSS projects and communities.
In March 2017 it was acquired by GitLab[1][2]. In September 2020 it was acquired by Element, the company responsible for Matrix[3][4]. The Gitter ecoystem is being migrated to the Matrix network[5][6].
