Data[how to use] Collection of Flash website WARCs

Adobe ended the life of the multimedia plugin and player called "Flash" at the end of 2020, and began blocking its use in the following year. In doing so, it back-stabbed decades of created content. Browsers removed support for the plugin shortly after its discontinuation in Firefox 85[1] and Chromium 88[2].

This working page is meant to gather information on this situation and create possibilities for prolonging Flash, even as an open-source player of content already created.

Projects

  • Ruffle is an open source Flash emulator built in Rust. Browser plugins, as well as a standalone player application, are available.
  • Flashpoint are collecting Flash content, and have written a standalone launcher and web server you run locally to play them. They respect take-down requests from content owners.
  • Clean Flash Player is a distribution of the official Flash player with community patches to remove Adobe's kill switch.
