App.net is an ad-free online social networking service and microblogging service which enables its users to write messages of up to 256 characters.
It provides its own frontend, (Alpha), but also has third party frontends that serve the same backend.
On 2017/01/12, App.net announced that they were shutting down on 2017/03/14.[1]
