Software Heritage is a European-funded effort to archive software source code of all kinds, including all the versions thereof. It offers instant saving of individual repos, slightly delayed saving of bulk amounts of repos (restricted to privileged users) and regularly saving all repos on a forge. The archive is publicly available and the LWN article "Preserving the global software heritage" gives more details.
Other software archives include:
- Codearchiver
- GitHub
- https://snapshot.debian.org/ (archive of all Debian history including binaries and source code)
- https://archive.org/details/software (focuses on binaries and the most ephemeral software; open submission)
- http://openhub.net/ (focused on analysis; open submission)
