Paste Sites
You may want to share several lines of text with people you’re chatting with, whether it be a quote from an article or a block of code or a chat log. On IRC and most other chat mediums, it’s polite (proper Netiquette) to dump text to a paste site and then share a link to that page instead.
Most of the time you can do this anonymously (without creating an account) and we’ve only listed those sites here. Many also come with a variety of features, such as: syntax highlighting, password protection, and selective retention times (how long before your paste gets deleted).
Below is a selection of recommended paste sites and some of their more prominent features.

The following paste sites use 0bin. 0bin is an Open Source Project focusing on client side encryption for assured privacy and to protect site operators from responsibility of pasted content.
0bin supports end-to-end encryption, file upload, expire after 1 view, 1 day, 1 month or never, but no syntax hilighting or user defined passwords. 0bin is the evolution of ZeroBin which is now defunct and insecure. HTTP-only (Non SSL) sites are probably just as secure and private as HTTPS, and may be useful to users behind a firewall.

Etherpad
The following paste sites use Etherpad. Etherpad is an Open Source Project focusing on real time document collaboration, like a multi-user notepad, Google Docs or Apache Wave. Etherpads can exist as a stand-alone site feature, or integrated as part of a larger suite of account based cloud applications. The primary features are rich formatting and live editing.
Etherpads are NOT secured via end-to-end encryption, meaning the site operator can theoretically access all content.

Archiving
Many paste sites are not possible to archive because they use random URLs and don't list existing pastes. Some go further and encrypt on the client side.
The paste sites that are possible to archive either list all pastes, or recent pastes, or trending pastes, or they have predictable and enumerable URLs.
Currently only pastebin.com is being archived regularly by the URLs project, as well as submission of lists of pastebins from ArchiveBot and other sources.
Future archiving could include public pastes from sites with public lists through URLs, or Distributed recursive crawls for sites with predictable URLs.
