ZippCast is a video sharing service, started in 2009.[1] On May 31, 2016 Louis Gualtieri (owner) decided to shut the site down on June 5, 2016, due to financial and personal reasons.[2]

Shutdown

Shutdown notice:[2]

I am shutting the project down. It has been expressed by many users that the website has a untrustworthy track record and that I cannot be trusted. I have spent well over 60,000 of my personal money into this over the last two years and countless time away from my own family. Then I have to accept statements made by various users. It is taking a personal toll on myself and its led me to stay away from the community as a whole. I do not wish to damage things any further and that is the reason for my decision. I have had a team leave me in the dust and make false accusations. A team that never did anything to help the technical or financial aspect of the project. I cannot carry it any further. It is with a heavy heart to announce the shutdown date. 06/05/2016. On this date the servers will be shutdown and the website will be inaccessible.
Louis Gualtieri

How can I help?

Unfortunately, the site can't handle too much load, so we can't really hammer it very hard, expect strict rate limiting. Items are up to hundreds of megabytes in size.

Running a Warrior

You can start up a Warrior and there select ZippCast. (If you don't really care what you are archiving, select ArchiveTeam's Choice instead, as at some points ArchiveTeam may priorize another project.)

Running the script manually

If you use Linux and you're a bit familiar with it, you can try running the script directly.

The instructions can be found at github.com/ArchiveTeam/zippcast-grab.

Some additional information
Don't forget to replace YOURNICKHERE with your nickname.

The number after --concurrent determines how many threads run at the same time. You can increase this number if your resources (RAM, CPU, bandwidth) are sufficient. However, if you constantly see messages about rate limiting, there is no need to increase the concurrency.

If you want to stop the script, please do it gracefully if possible. To do so, create an empty file named STOP in the folder of the script (terminal command: touch STOP). The script finishes the current item(s) and stops only after that. (If you kill the script immediately, the items get broken, and they will need to be reassigned to another user.) – Before starting the script again, don't forget to remove the STOP file.

If you see "Project code is out of date", kill the script, go to its folder (cd zippcast-grab) and issue git pull https://github.com/ArchiveTeam/zippcast-grab. After the updating has finished, re-launch the script.

Donating to the Internet Archive

Content downloaded by the ArchiveTeam will be uploaded to the Internet Archive, where it will be stored and be available – hopefully – forever. However, storing it costs thousands of dollars in the long run. So, if you can afford, please consider donating to the Internet Archive, so that this piece of history can be kept for us all. http://archive.org/donate
