VidLii is a video platform launched in 2017 with the aim of recreating the 2008 YouTube experience for nostalgia.
History
VidLii is not the first site that recreates an early YouTube experience. Before that, there were ZippCast and VidBlue, which shut down 2016 and 2018 respectively.
In its early days, VidLii featured the 2006 YouTube layout.[1] A few weeks later, it was switched to the 2008 YouTube.[2]
After VidLii changed its owner in 2022, the site started allowing gore videos, which presumably resulted in its eventual exclusion from the Wayback Machine in 2024.[3][4]
Features
Registered users can opt to see the 2009 or 2012 YouTube players, or the default JWplayer.
Channel owners can choose a layout for their channel: 2008 YouTube, 2010 YouTube, Cosmic Panda (2011-2012).
