Gitter is a chat system mostly used by GitHub users. In March 2017 it's been acquired by Gitlab: http://blog.gitter.im/2017/03/15/gitter-gitlab-acquisition/ .
Archives
Gitter contains chat archives for many popular open-source projects at gitter.im/{org}/{channel}/archives, for example: https://gitter.im/gitterHQ/gitter/archives. These are static HTML pages by date (for example, https://gitter.im/gitterHQ/gitter/archives/2013/12/04).
