Tycho Brahe (1546-1601) was a Danish astronomer who spent over 30 years gathering the most precise pre‑telescopic observations ever made, compiling more than 1,000 star measurements and decades of planetary data. His meticulous preservation of visual observations, especially of Mars, became the foundation for Kepler's laws.
He was also famously eccentric. He wore a metal nose after losing the real one in a duel and kept a beer‑drinking pet elk.
