The Mundaneum was an ambitious early 20th‑century project created by Paul Otlet and Henri La Fontaine, a kind of paper‑based Internet.
Its goal was to gather, classify, and make accessible all human knowledge through millions of index cards, documents, and images organized with the Universal Decimal Classification.
Conceived as a global information center, the Mundaneum anticipated modern ideas such as digital databases, search engines, and interconnected knowledge networks.
